UHAS parliament suspends ongoing SRC and local NUGS elections

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Students Representative Council (SRC) Parliament has reportedly suspended the ongoing SRC and Local NUGS polls in the school.

According to the Electoral Commission of the University the suspension of the election is due to a limited period of time, adding that per a survey conducted ahead of the polls, it would not be sensible to have the electronic elections.

In regard to that, each of the candidates is expected to receive GHS 90.00 as compensation, as well as a refund of the cost of filing their nominations.

As the 2019/2020 academic year ends soon, acting leaders have been appointed to control the affairs of students management bodies of the university.

But some students activists are of the belief that it’s a plan by the Student’s Representative Council, led by the President, Abraham Norman Nortey to get their partners lead the over 3,000 students in the 2020/2021 academic year.

On the part of some candidates, they have petitioned the Registrar, Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Students over the issue, whereas others are threatening to stage peaceful demonstrations against the SRC.
