UEW’s Faculty of Health, Allied Sciences, and Home Economics Education held an exhibition showcasing student talent in fashion and food, blending creativity with cutting-edge technology under the theme “The Future is Now: Blending Technology, Innovation, and Style.” Discover the highlights of this inspiring event.
The Faculty of Health, Allied Sciences, and Home Economics Education (FHASHEE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) recently organized a vibrant exhibition under the theme “The Future is Now: Blending Technology, Innovation, and Style.” This event highlighted the exceptional talents of UEW students in fashion and food, emphasizing the fusion of creativity and cutting-edge technology.
The exhibition featured an array of innovative fashion designs, cake decorations, sugar crafts, and recipe development projects. These were presented by students from the Departments of Clothing and Textiles Education and Integrated Home Economics Education. The event showcased how technology and creative ingenuity are transforming modern fashion and elevating culinary practices, particularly in production and preservation.
Embracing Technology and Sustainability:
Prof. Jonathan Ammah, who chaired the event, commended the students and faculty for their outstanding contributions, highlighting the critical importance of sustainability and functionality in fashion.
He underscored how technology is revolutionizing the fashion industry, allowing designers to push creative boundaries and enhance efficiency. Prof. Ammah also emphasized the need for innovative materials and sustainable practices to secure the future of the fashion industry.
Echoing these sentiments, Prof. Victor Antwi, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UEW, praised the students for their creativity and innovation.
He reflected on the progress made since the previous year’s exhibition, noting the impressive blend of traditional craftsmanship with advanced technological tools. Prof. Antwi urged the students to continue exploring technological advancements in fashion and food production, and to use exhibitions like this as platforms to showcase their innovative ideas.
Showcasing Student Talent:
In her welcome address, Dr. Rosemary Quarcoo, Head of the Department of Integrated Home Economics Education, highlighted the importance of the exhibition in showcasing students’ skills in fashion, food, and nutrition.
She pointed out the diverse exhibits, which included garments crafted by Clothing and Textiles students, intricate cake decorations by senior Food and Nutrition students, and innovative recipe developments from the junior class. Dr. Quarcoo also noted that the exhibition serves to inspire senior high school students to consider pursuing these programmes at UEW.
Mrs. Victoria Ghunney, Head of the Department of Clothing and Textiles Education, articulated the event’s purpose, emphasizing the integration of technology, creativity, and fashion in both food production and preservation.
She highlighted how the exhibition illustrated the seamless blend of advanced technology and innovative design, redefining modern fashion and enhancing culinary creativity. Mrs. Ghunney encouraged attendees to fully immerse themselves in the exhibition, exploring the vast opportunities technology offers in these fields.
