UEW Students’ Demo:Cost of Damages amounted to GHC250,000-Council

The Governing Council of the University of Education, Wineeba ,has indicated, that the latest Students’ demonstration that turned violent shall cost the University about GH₵ 250,000.

The Governing Council disclosed this information in a press statement on Monday,March 18,2019 .

The statement was  issued after the UEW Governing Council on  Monday 18th March 2019 held a closed-door meeting after the closure of the Winneba and Ajumako campuses last Thursday, March 14, 2019, due to a violent demonstration by the students.

According to a document (Press) released by the chairman of the Governing Council Prof. E. N Abakah the total cost of damages is estimated at about GHC 250,000.

The statement further indicated that the university could only be opened for Academic work after repair works are concluded in the University.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Governing Council over the last weekend puts its team together to assess the cost of damages done to the properties of the University and some staff. The total cost of damages is estimated at about GHC 250,000. ”

“We need to understand that broken down critical facilities such as vehicles, ATMs, glass windows and others affected by the violence may have to be fully repaired or replaced before the students could be asked to report back to the two Campuses. “It  said.

“There is also the need to do a clean-up and undertake a repair or restoration of major facilities on our campuses before we could ask the students to come back.”
