UEW Lecturers win grant to evaluate Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination every two years

A team of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) staff has won a competitive research grant to access the Ghana teacher licensure examination (GTLE) conducted by the National Teaching Council (NTC) twice every year.

The team led by Prof Samuel Asare Amoah are from the Faculty of Educational Studies, the Institute of Educational Research and Innovation Studies (IERIS) and the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development (DRID).

Vice-Chancellor of the Winneba University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, following the victory has commended members of the team composed of academics for making proud the University of Education (UEW).

Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni said his efforts at championing the course to upgrade the Externally Funded Projects Office (EFPO) to the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development (DRID) is beginning to yield dividends.

He in a short address expressed confidence in the UEW research team and affirmed that the feat is a testament to the calibre of competitive scholars at the University of Education (UEW), who would excel anywhere in the world.

Explaining the grant, Dr Edmond Agyeman, said the team would be undertaking a nationwide study to evaluate the GTLE against its original purpose, identify emerging challenges and make recommendations for improvement.

He indicated that the research team would recruit approximately 30 graduate students of the University of Education (UEW) as research assistants to support the project to enable them to develop and refine their research skills.

The research team comprises Prof Asare Amoah (Department of Educational Foundations), Dr Emmanuel Tamanja (IERIS), Dr Edmond Agyeman (Director, DRID), Dr Patricia Amos (Head, Department of Counselling Psychology).

Others are Dr Richardson Addai-Mununkum (Head, Department of Educational Foundations), and Dr Hinneh Kusi (Graduate Programmes Coordinator, Department of Educational Administration and Management).
