Students of the University of Cape Coast, on Saturday, 23rd January, 2021, embarked on a campus-wide cleanup exercise to tidy up the campus which has been left filthy as a result of weeks of TEWU strikes.
The call was made by the joint collaboration of SRC/JCRC/L-NUGS/GRASAG aspirants for the 2020/2021 academic year. This move has been the first of its kind in the university, which saw many followers of these aspirants and the general students body teamed up to tidy up the campus. All aspirants contributed money which was used to mobilize transportation, tools and refreshments for the participants.
During the exercise, one TEWU member who happened to be passing by expressed disappointment in the students, emphasising that they are the parents of these students in the university and their strike actions were to enable them to get money to keep their children in school, so if the students are tidying up the campus, then it defeats the basis for their strike.
He however encouraged the students to also add their voice to the call of TEWU for better conditions of service so that they can return to work, and students as well focus on their studies.
