Tongor SHTS Inaugurates First Board of Governors since its establishment in 2007

Established in Tongor Tsanakpe in the South Dayi District in the Volta region as a community school in 2007 and later absorbed as a government assisted school in 2016, Tongor Senior High Technical School also known as “Meridian College” has inaugurated its first ever Board of Governors for the school since its inception.

The inauguration of the board forms part of the reconstitution of new Board of Governors for senior high schools in the Volta region.

The inauguration ceremony which was held on Wednesday March 09 2019, was graced by chiefs and elders of Tongor Tsanakpe Traditional area, the District chief executive for South Dayi, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi constituency, Heads of Department from various government agencies in the the district and old students of the school.

The 13 member Board is chaired by Mr. Henry Yevu, the Human Resource Manager of the South Dayi District Assembly and a representative of the assembly and comprises the following as members Mr. Michael Doh, Director General’s Rep, Ms Enyonam Afi Amafuga, Regional Director of Education, Ms. Justina B. Ziemeh, District Director of Education, Mr. Augustin Kofi Addah, Headmaster, Messrs Henry Yevu and Wellington Elukpedzu as District Assembly Reps, Mr. Eric Wurah Junior as P.T.A’s Rep, Messrs Michael Worlanyo Senoo and Albert Akoi as Old Students Reps.

The others are Hon. Rockson-Nelson Etse K. Dafeamekpor and Mr. Cornelius Atsu Dafeamekpor representing Historical/ Traditional Interest, Messrs Emmanuel Zormelo and John Kwabla Tettey Ahlivia representing Teaching and Non Teaching Staff respectively.

Delivering the inaugural address, the Volta Regional Director of Education Ms. Enyonam Afi Amafuga entreated the Board to live up to its mandate.

She further admonished the board to work hard to improve upon discipline and academic performance in the school.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Augustine Addah, in his speech, stated that, the school had its first shot at the WASSCE in 2017 and scored 100% which has enabled the school to be placed among category ‘B’ schools in the country.

He commended the staff for their hard work and bemoaned the poor state of infrastructure in the school.

He indicated that the school lacks a school bus and appealed to the government to come to their aid by completing Getfund projects which started in the school in 2016 but has stalled.
