The Ghana Education Service (GES) has indicated, that each teacher at the public schools shall be expected to sign an acknowledgement form stating all personal particulars and also authorizing the deduction of a 30% cost of Laptop at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).

The GES in a letter dated January 29, 2021 to the three major Pre-tertiary Teacher Unions, Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers -Ghana (CCT-GH) indicated, that subsequent directives on the blended service delivery will be rolled out in the coming days.

National Digitization

According to the GES, the decision to provide teachers with laptops was as a result of the National Digitization under which schools are being provided with wifi facilities, and also following the experiences of COVID-19.

Blended Learning

The GES said it has realized that much more attention ought to be given to the concept of blended education service delivery, which involves both face to face and online at all levels of pre-tertiary education.

”The implication therefore is that, the needed infrastructure should be put in place to support the concept of Blended Education Service delivery” The GES said.

 

 

Laptops for Teachers

The GES said that Government through the Ministry of Education is supporting the Ghana Education Service, working closely with the Teacher Unions within the GES to secure laptops for all teaching staff of the service.

Ownership

According to the GES, the laptops are to be owned as personal assets of the individual teachers, and is mandatory for each teacher.

 

Materials on Laptop

The GES said much of the materials for teaching will be uploaded onto the laptop. The GES mentioned materials including the curriculum, Teachers’ Resource Packs, Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Modules as well as textbooks on core subjects.

 

Teachers’ Portfolio

The GES added, that working with the National Teaching Council (NTC), it was intended that portfolio of teachers towards their professional progression and licensing will be uploaded onto the system to enable teachers to access their build-ups online.

 

 

Cost Sharing

The GES emphasized, that government has agreed to pay 70% of the cost while the individual teacher is to pay the remaining 30%.

The GES said the above-mentioned amounts have been agreed upon in consultation with the Teacher Unions.
