The Chief Executive Officer of Public Sector Reforms Secretariat, Mr Thomas Kusi Boafi following the rejection of the controversial E-levy by the opposition says Free SHS will be terminated if Ghanaians refuse to pay the MoMo tax.
Mr Thomas Kusi Boafi said the mobile money tax when approved will increase the revenue for the funding of the popular programme.

He told Kessben FM the low government revenue mobilization has created a huge fiscal deficit and until the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) is passed, this year’s BECE candidates risk the chance of benefitting the free school policy.
“So, Ghanaians must make a choice; we don’t like free education, stop employing our children, don’t increase wages and salary, we’ll have to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for assistance if the e-levy is not passed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has said About 1.39 million students are expected to benefit from the Free Senior High School and Technical Vocational and Education Training (Free SHS/TVET) this year.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira FM monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh, Dr Adutwum said the government as part of an effort to ensure more students are educated has included TVET schools to free SHS policy.
“A total of 1.39 million students are expected to benefit from the Free Senior High School and Technical Vocational and Education Training (Free SHS/TVET) in the next academic year when the school placements are out,” Adutwum noted.
He said the Ghana Education Service (GES) following the inclusion of TVET in the free SHS program has added more than 130 Technical Vocational and Education Training (TVET) institutions to the 2021 BECE school selection register.
The Bosomtwe Member of Parliament furthered that the central government has built more infrastructures in some Technical Schools to promote Technical and Vocational education adding that the 2022 budget will add more.
