BECE CANDIDATES

The Parliament of Ghana following the upcoming 2021 BECE for School has tasked the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to put effective mechanisms and measures in place to avoid cases of exam questions leakages.

The directive comes after the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education Thursday engaged some stakeholders in the education sector including Africa Education Watch to discuss the leakages of annual WASSCE and BECE questions.

The Members of Parliament (MPs) expressed worry about the longtime problem of examination question leakages and urged the Management of the non-profit-making organization to identify their weaknesses and solve them.

Present at the meeting were members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, representatives from the Education Ministry, Ghana Education Service, WAEC, CHASS, Africa Education Watch and Ghana Police Service.

The 31st edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates will commence on Monday, November 15, 2021, and end on Friday, November 19, 2021, at various examination centres nationwide.

A staff of the Examinations Council has told EducationWeb.com.gh a total of 539,202 students from 18,013 public and private Junior High Schools (JHSs) across the country have been registered to write the national examination.

Speaking to EducationWeb’s Okyere Darko George, the official of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) said his outfit has put in place adequate measures to ensure smooth conduct of the November 2021 BECE for School.

“Statistics shows 539,202 pupils from 18,000 and 13 schools have been registered to write this year’s BECE in November. WAEC is fully prepared to administer the 31st and 2021 editions of the BECE,” he said in an email.

The WAEC official further said the Council in due course will undertake some pre-examination activities including briefing of Supervisors, Invigilators and Depot keepers to ensure question papers are under tight security.

In a related development, the Executive Director of Education think tank – Africa Education Watch, Mr Kofi Asare has said his outfit at the appropriate time will publish its report on the conduct of the just-ended 2021 WASSCE for School.
