President Mahama Submits List of 12 Regional and Sector Ministers for Vetting

 

President John Dramani Mahama has put forward the names of 12 nominees to Parliament for vetting and approval by the Appointments Committee. This list features three regional ministers and nine sector ministers, chosen for their governance experience, public service, and professional skills.

Regional Ministers Nominees

Wilbert Petty Brentum – Western North Region

Wilbert Petty Brentum is a seasoned chartered accounand mining expert who has significantly contributed to Ghana’s extractive sector, ensuring financial compliance and operational efficiency.

He has previously served as an assembly member in the Juaboso District and has provided advice on local governance and fiscal policies.

 

Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere – Central Region

An educationist and management expert, Mr. Okyere boasts over 20 years of leadership experience in academia and public administration.

He is a two-term Member of Parliament for Gomoa East and currently leads the Centre for Artisan and Apprentice Development, where he has empowered thousands of young artisans through skills training and job placements.

 

Joseph Nelson – Western Region

Joseph Nelson has a background in finance and economic policy, with extensive work experience in both Ghana and the UK.

He previously held the position of Regional Director for the Youth Employment Agency, where he promoted youth-led economic empowerment initiatives. His expertise includes international finance, economic policy, and microfinance development.

Sector Ministers Nominees

The following nominees have been selected to lead various ministries:

Kwame Governs Agbodza (MP) – Ministry of Roads and Highways

As an architect and infrastructure strategist, Agbodza has overseen major projects in healthcare, education, and housing both locally and internationally.

Abla Dzifa Gomashie (MP) – Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts

As a well-known advocate for the creative arts and a two-term MP, Hon. Gomashie has dedicated her efforts to enhancing Ghana’s culture and tourism industry, drawing on her experience as a former Deputy Minister for Tourism.

Emelia Arthur (MP) – Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture

Hon. Arthur is a development specialist with a focus on local governance and natural resource management. She has partnered with major international organizations to advance policy development and capacity-building efforts.

George Opare-Addo – Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment

A lawyer and experienced political strategist, Opare-Addo has previously served as the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem North and currently holds the position of National Youth Organizer for the NDC.

Haruna Iddrisu (MP) – Ministry of Education

Having served as Minister for Communications, Hon. Iddrisu has held significant positions as both Majority and Minority Leader in Parliament. His commitment to educational reforms is set to influence the future of the Free SHS programme.

Ahmed Ibrahim (MP) – Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs
