Energy Minister John Peter Amewu has donated a brand-new Mitsubishi pick-up to Hohoe Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The gesture, made on behalf of President Akufo-Addo, according to the Minister, was in response to several appeals by the Directorate.
The Hohoe Municipal Directorate of Education, reports say, has been without an official vehicle for monitoring, supervision and other official activities for years.
“We had a Methuselah pick-up which was a problem,” says Emefa Amanya, Hohoe Municipal Director of GES. “It couldn’t enable us to reach the people at the grassroot. Sometimes, you have to pick taxi and move around. So we are so grateful to the honorable minister. The donation is really timely.”

According to Mr. Amewu, the donation forms part of government’s effort to facilitate development in educational institutions across the country.
“Statistics have shown that over the past three/four years, the results of the municipality was nothing to talk about, students’ performance had dropped drastically… on that basis, we tried for the first time to organize mock examination,” he stressed.
Earlier, Amewu donated eleven motorbikes to all circuit supervisors to enable them carry out effective monitoring and supervision of schools.
The Minister has promised to reward best five pupils in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
