Teacher Unions in the Ghana Education Service (GES) have accused the GES of owing them Deprived Communities allowances since 2009.
The Unions made this allegation in a letter dated September 27, 2022, to the Director General of the GES to rectify their claims.
‘The Ghana Education Service (GES) has since 2009 sinned against the provision of the 2009 Collective Agreementbetween the GES and the Teacher Unions in the Education Service, which enjoins the GES in Section 18.3 to pay allowances based on a percentage of monthly gross salary to teachers posted to areas designated as deprived.” The teachers lamented.
The teachers said the Collective Agreement was renewed in August 2020, with a promise that the issue would be resolved.
”Unfortunately, for two years now, it has not been done. We once again will like to remind you to ensure that the Committee’s work is completed and Payment of the Allowance to Teachers in Deprived Communities effected before the end of 31 December 2022.” They stated.
