Past Questions meant to guide Candidates on how to answer Questions – GES

EducationGhana, August 29, GES PASCO: The Ghana Education Service (GES) has said that Past Questions are QUEbeing given to candidates at the Junior High School (JHS) and the Senior High Schools (SHSs) are meant to guide Candidates on how to answer questions.

The Director-General of the GES, Prof Kwesi Opoku Amankwa made this revelation during a meet press encounter on Friday, August 27, 2021.

The Director-General was speaking in defence of agitations from the general public, that the continued purchase of past questions for the candidates was irrelevant and has no much impact on learning outcomes.

Some schools of thought also indicated the decision to buy the past questions was a misplaced priority being used to soak the public purse and also to look good in front of their political sympathizers and Ghanaians as a whole.

Background

The Government has spent a whooping GHC34.8 million on purchasing past questions for 2021 WASSCE candidates under the free SHS program.

According to the Minister of Education, Yaw Osei Adutwum, the ministry procured 446,954 sets of Past Questions at a Unit Price of GHC78.

Speaking to Parliament, the Minister said the Unit Price represents a 32% increase over the 2020 Unit Price of GHC59.

The ministry also reportedly received 416,060 Scientific Mathematical Instruments to the tune of GHS 31,204,500.00.
