EducationGhana, August 29, Teachers’ Upgrading: The Ghana Education Service (GES) has said that some 14,000 teachers have been upgraded to their various ranks undeservedly.
The Director-General said about 14,997 teachers who were upgraded do not deserve their upgrading in principle.
The Director-General of the GES, Prof Kwesi Opoku Amankwa made this revelation during a meet press encounter on Friday, August 27, 2021, to discuss matters arising in the Basic and Senior High Schools.

Prof Amankwa said the teachers who were undeservedly upgraded were teachers who did not under the necessary processes before and during their upgrading processes.
He indicated that such teachers did not seek permission to further their studies hence were not known to the GES.
He added, that though they were not to be upgraded in principle, the unions had a stakeholder engagement with the GES to plead on their behalves to be upgraded.

Prof Amankwa said in all, about 29,000 teachers were being upgraded successfully at all levels including the 14,997 who do not deserve it in principle.
