NSMQ2019: The 3 schools that scored zero in Problem of the Day with ”Uninspiring” Performances

The second contest on the opening day of the 2019 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) proved uninspiring.

The three schools competing for a guaranteed spot at the one-eighth stage failed to produce a single point in Round Three, known as problem of the day.

A single question is given to the schools and they are required to solve it and present their answers and provided boards.

To spice things up, Prudential Life Insurance has introduced a GHS500 prize for any school that makes a perfect score (10 marks) in that round.

However, in an extremely rare occurrence, all three competing schools failed to produce a single point in the round.

Bolgatanga Girls SHS, Lawra SHS and Ashaiman SHS were all frustrated, maintaining their score from the previous round.

At the end of the five-round contest, Bolga Girls SHS topped with 24 points, beating Ashaiman SHS with four points.

Lawra SHS, the first school to qualify from the Upper West region would have to go back to the drawing board after finishing with eight points, much lower than the 30 points they used to qualify.

Their tally is just too low to help them qualify among the ’18 high scoring but losing schools.’

In another contest that took place simultaneously, Kpando SHS from the Volta Region inched to victory with 28 points.

Saviour SHS gave stiff competition but when it mattered most, they tanked, coming six points short of Kpando SHS’s tally.

Fiaseman SHS proved to be masters of riddles as they dominated the last round but it was too late for a comeback.

They finished the contest with 15 points. It’s over for them as well.
