Not all Teachers qualify for Responsibility Allowances – NAPO

GOVERNMENT TEACHERS NAPO MAHAMA

The Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh(NAPO) has said that not all teachers at the Ghana Education Service (GES) qualify for the Responsibility Allowances.

The Minister made this revelation on JAMAN 103.7 Radio on Friday, November 20, 2020.

According to NAPO, there are some 9 categories of teachers who qualify for the Responsibility Allowances.

Categories of Teachers

According to the there are 350,000 staff of the Ghaha Education Service on government payroll.

He indicated, that only 35,512 of the staff of the GES qualify for responsibility allowances.

According to him, the category of teachers who qualify for responsibility Allo

  1. Heads of Basic Schools
  2. Heads of Senior High/ Technical Schools.
  3. Assistant Heads of Senior High/ Technical Schools
  4. Form Masters
  5. Chaplains and Imams
  6. Unit Directors in the District Education Offices
  7. Senior Housemaster/mistress,
  8. Housemaster/House Mistress
  9. Head of Department

Responsibility Allowances and Ranks

The Minister indicated that Responsibility Allowances are not being paid according to ranks but additional responsibility given to staff.

The responsibility allowance is a legitimate allowance paid to teachers with additional responsibilities.

He added, that the allowance seizes when the staff is no longer performing the additional responsibilities.
