Gov’t has reached agreement with UNOPS to construct 100,000 housing units for teachers

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated in its 2020 Manifesto, that agreement has been reached between United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the Government to construct 100,000 housing units for teachers and other education professionals.

The NPP said, that in fulfilment of its 2016 Manifesto Promise to collaborate with GNAT, NAGRAT, and others to facilitate an affordable housing scheme for teachers, an agreement has been reached between UNOPS and the Government to construct 100,000 housing units for teachers and other education professionals.

Provision of Infrastructure for Learning

The NPP said, in fulfilment of its promise in 2016, to provide appropriate and adequate infrastructure and learning facilities to accommodate expansion and ensure conducive teaching, learning, and research in tertiary institutions, the party has chalked some success.

The party said a US$1.5B loan, of which US$500M has been disbursed, has been secured on the back of GETFund to develop educational infrastructure.

It continued to clarify that there is massive infrastructure development across educational institutions currently ongoing

The party indicated that it has completed the construction and commissioning of Phase I of the Somanya campus of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) for which sod was hurriedly cut in December 2016 by the outgoing Mahama-led NDC Government.
