Content Knowledge

According to Patrick, the teacher who is in the centre of the implementation process of the New Standard-Based Curriculum was only trained on the pedagogic skills without content knowledge,

He added, that topics such as coding, which has been introduced in Computing has to be taught by a teacher with in-depth knowledge in the area.

He indicated, that teachers who have little or no content knowledge in some areas of the new Standard-Based Curriculum may end up teaching subject areas where they have mastery of.

This he said can have a negative effect on the main pur[ose of implementing the curriculum.

Training for CCP Curriculum

Sackey further said, that the training of teachers for the Common Core Programme (CCP) Curriculum shall have a negative effect on its implementation most especially on the JHS1 students who shall be coming from Basic 6 where the Standard-Based Curriculum was being introduced.

He looked at the time for a possible reopening of schools and the entry behaviour of students coming from the Primary 6.
