NAGRAT Partners Methodist University to run Post-Graduate Courses for Teachers

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Methodist University College of Ghana (MUCG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to help graduate teachers to further their studies.

Per the agreement, members of NAGRAT are allowed to pursue courses aimed at enhancing their profession and career at the school while NAGRAT pays for the cost of the education.

President of the Methodist University College of Ghana, Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, speaking at the signing of the MoU in Accra on Thursday, September 10, 2020, outlined the nature of the courses.

He added that the school is interested in the professional development of teachers in Ghana.

“For us at MUCG, for every educational enterprise, the teacher plays a significant role. The quality of teaching and learning everywhere depends on the teacher quality and invariably, teacher quality depends on the quality of training and retraining.”

“The MoU we are going to sign is not for the preparation of teachers but is the preparation of people who are already teachers to hold higher positions and it’s our collective desire to train the manpower needs of our country. We have structured our postgraduate programmes at MUCG in such a way that whoever accesses our programmes should come out with different attitudes towards teaching.”

The President of NAGRAT, Angel Carbonu on his part, said per the structure, NAGRAT will bear the cost and later deduct it from the salaries of the beneficiaries in tranches.

“We are very happy because of the flexibility that the Methodist University College of Ghana offers in its instructional modes where the teacher, regardless of where you find yourself in the country, can access the tuition in such a manner that it will not have an adverse effect on the children the teacher teaches.”

“Again, we are very pleased too because the ultimate objective of this endeavour is not necessarily the paper certification but the knowledge and skills that the teacher will acquire to be able to see a positive appreciation in the job he or she does in the classroom.”
