NAFCO to supply SHS with food before start of 2019/2020 academic year

Boarding schools are expected to receive a chunk of their food supply before the commencement of the 2019/2020 Academic Year, the Chief Executive Officer of National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Mr. Hanan Abdul-Wahab has said.

Speaking in Takoradi on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, Mr Abdul-Wahab explained the measure was to ensure an impediment-free semester in conformity with practices and procedures since 2017 when the Free Senior High School programme started.

He was addressing the 57th annual conference of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) in the Western Regional capital, where the headteachers are discussing wide-range of issues pertaining to the education sector in general and the high school level in particular.

The conference is on the theme, “Achieving sustainable quality education in Ghana; the role of stakeholders”

Mr. Abdul-Wahab told the conference his outfit was very much aware of the challenges ahead of the commencement of the new academic year and has initiated adequate measures to address them.

“As the Free SHS programme enters its third year in September 2019, the National Food Buffer Stock Company is very much aware of the critical issues that need to be addressed. NAFCO is aware that there will be no fee-paying student come September, as every student in all the three-year batches will be benefitting under the Free SHS programme”, he reiterated.

NAFCO donated an amount of GH¢10,000 to support the organisation of this year’s CHASS Conference as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

NAFCO is the state-designated supplier of food to Senior High Schools under the Free Senior High School programme since it took off in 2017.
