Battor, Ghana: On October 26, 2023, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ghana’s Minister of Education, led a delegation to visit the flood-ravaged town of Battor in the North Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region. The visit followed the recent devastating spillage of the Akosombo Dam, which had dire consequences for the town and its residents.
The town of Battor had been grappling with the devastating effects of the flooding, and the visit aimed to assess the situation, offer support, and express solidarity with the affected community.
Dr. Adutwum, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Education, agency heads, and directors of the Ministry, took the time to visit the areas severely affected by the flood. This firsthand assessment allowed the Minister to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by educators in the community and further reaffirmed his commitment to their recovery.
In response to the pressing needs of those most profoundly affected by the disaster, Dr. Adutwum donated 450 bags of rice and several bags and boxes of mineral water. This gesture was aimed at providing sustenance to teachers and citizens who have been struggling in the wake of the disaster.
