Methodist University College to resume academic activities after suspension of e-learning

The Methodist University College, Ghana, has reviewed its online system to ensure an effective roll-out of online academic activities for the remaining weeks of the semester after the temporary suspension the school’s e-learning programme.

Online teaching and learning were put on hold in the Institution after several agitations from students over challenges marred the smooth running of the school’s e-learning program.

But in a communique to make known plans to resume academic work, President of the College, Professor Kwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, noted that penalties for late registration has been waived for students who would be able to pay their fees before May 23, 2020.

Lecture periods have also been extended to May 23, 2020 to ensure that students who were unable to partake in the online classes will have the opportunity to make up whereas lecturers are expected to use the period to attend to such students.

“Lecturing period has been extended to May 23, 2020 to enable students who may not have had access so far to catch up. This should also give lecturers the opportunity to go over their lessons with students.”

While management of the institution is yet to agree on a fixed date for the commencement of the end of semester exams, continuous assessments will continue to take place until May 23, 2020.

According to Prof Asabere-Ameyaw, “the University College has also negotiated with the management of the hostels on campus and reached an agreement that no extra charges should be made should there be an extension of the current academic year, which may require international students to extend their stay at the hostels.”
