Marketing Awards: Impressive as UPSA VC, SIC Life MD emerge 2018 CIMG Marketing Man, Woman of the Year

The Vice Chancellor of University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor Abednego Okoe Feehi Amartey, has been recognised as the Marketing Man of the Year by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIMG).

The award is for his sterling performance in harnessing marketing and research in the area of academia.

Prof. Amartey in 2017 outlined his vision for his first term in office which was anchored on enhancing the image and the effectiveness of the institution; promoting research and competing in the global higher education environment.

One of his notable landmarks during his tenure has been the introduction of 15 new academic programmes including PhD in marketing.

He also oversaw the sharp upsurge in visibility and brand equity of the institution such that it was ranked among the top universities in Sub-Saharan Africa by higher education that assesses the social and economic impacts of universities based on United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Addressing the media, the elated UPSA VC encouraged leaders to act responsibly in their various fields of work.

The Managing Director of SIC Life Insurance Company, Dr Rev. Elizabeth Wyns-Dogbe was recognized as the Marketing Woman of the Year.

In an interview, she urged institutions to take training and development seriously.

She said, “If we are able to train our people, we are able to develop our people, they will be able to offer better services to our clients.”

Some other marketing personalities honoured at the event include the Chief Marketing Officer at Scancom Plc (MTN),

Noel Kojo Ganson as Marketing Practitioner of the Year while the Marketing Manager of Silver Star, Rosalind Korkor Adzimahe, emerged the Marketing Student of the year.

Asempa FM, a subsidiary of the Multimedia Group Ltd., saw its flagship programme ‘Eko Si Sen’ recognized as the Radio Programme of the Year.

Host of the late afternoon political programme, Philip Osei Bonsu,told JoyBusiness his team would leverage the achievement to improve upon the organisation’s contribution to economic growth and development.

“I think the responsibility is even greater now going into an election year and because it’s the leader in the political space, we now would have to raise the bar, maintain the standard, make sure we lead and influence the national discourse properly to inure to the benefit of listeners,” he said.

The Special Guest of Honour who is also the Kyedomhene of the Assin Atandensu Traditional Council in the Central Region, Nana Akogyei Yeboah, urged businesses to uphold standards in order to thrive.

New Leadership

The National President of the CIMG, in his welcome address, announced the end of his four-year tenure as President of the institute. The institute’s National Vice President, Daniel Kasser Tee is the New National President of the CIMG.

Not awarded categories

In his address at the event, National President of the CIMG, Kojo Mattah indicated that for the first time in many years, his outfit has not given awards for some categories because the entries did not meet the new pass mark set.
