”Make Research Findings known” – Prof. Kwesi Yankah urged Universities

Minister of State for Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah, has urged the country’s Universities not to keep the knowledge they create through evidence-based research to themselves, but to publish them to inform public policy.

He said it is unfortunate too many public policies are churned out, not based on empirical research but through mere conjecture, and this must be corrected.

Professor Yankah was speaking at the inauguration of the Centre for Academic Research and Engaged Scholarship, of the Valley View University at Oyibi, near Accra.

He said too many students engaged in plagiarised research, adding that African Research account for only one percent of World Research output and this is not good enough.

The Vice Chancellor of the Valley View University, Professor Daniel Bediako, said it is the policy of the University that an individual faculty member, publishes one paper a year, adding that the School, encourages individual promotion oriented research.

The Vice Chancellor said the Center has been established to help carry out better research among students.
