The leadership of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has directed level 400 students across the forty-six (46) Accredited Public Colleges of Education to halt payment of examination fees.

According to the Association, Teacher Trainees are economically disabled and will not accept any outrageous payment from college management as directed by the University of Cape Coast.

On 14th September 2022, management of the University of Cape Coast – College of Education Studies released examination fees for the first and second semesters of the 2021/2022 academic year for level 400 students in the Forty-six (46) Accredited Public Colleges of Education.

In the letter, the Director of the University of Cape Coast Professor Eric Anane has directed the Principals of the Colleges of Education to ensure that, level 400 students pay the examination fees to the Institute of Education account.

According to the letter, the approved fee for First Semester is GH¢ 370.00 while the Second Semester is GH¢ 400.00 for all level 400 students.

In a counter-response, the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) considers the directive unfavourable to the final year students in the Colleges of Education and has therefore asked them not to pay.

The letter signed by the TTAG National President Jonathan Dzunu and General Secretary Musah Sumailah has directed trainees to immediately halt payment of the GH¢ 370.00 as indicated for the first-semester examination fee until further notice.

The Association further registers its displeasure on how some college managements are coercing teacher trainees (student teachers) to adhere to the release from the Institute of Education, UCC on payment of examination fees.

The leadership of TTAG has again instructed all local and sector executive officers of TTAG to ensure that all final year trainees adhere strictly to this directive until they hear from the national secretariat of TTAG on this issue.

All students are entreated to remain resolute and count on its indefatigable leadership for redress on the subject matter.
