Let’s demystify taboos and myths connected with menstruation – GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has called on the general public to demystify taboos and myths that have been connected with menstruation.

The GES as part of it’s commemoration of the 2020 menstrual hygiene day on the theme “It’s Time For Action” , advocated for a Continuous Education targeting boys, girls, parents and the general public on menstruation.

The GES also called for the provision of gender-friendly toilet facilities with changing rooms,as well as an easy accessibility of menstrual hygiene products even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Activities

As part of the commemoration,a  statement signed by the Deputy Director-General of the GES for the Director-General indicated the GES shall organize a Webinar Seminar of the commemoration on the 28th May ,2020 from 9:30am to 11:00am online.

The 90-minute event shall include a keynote address by the Minister of Education.

It shall also include Speakers and Panelists from the Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources,GES,UNICEF,CONIWAS and other Development Partners of the GES.

The GES said there shall be short films of well- known personalities from all sectors, including government ministers , religious and traditional personalities, adolescents and broadcasters celebrating Menstrual Hygiene Day.

In addition, the GES indicated,there shall be media interviews with representatives of the National Technical Committee on Menstrual Hygiene Management as well as Social Media Influencer Endorsements.

Post Activities

As part of continuous activities on Menstrual Hygiene Education in Ghana, the GES said there shall be discussions on Menstrual Hygiene Management on GTV’s Adult Education program.

Also, there shall be a Post Activities conducted by the SHEP Coordinators in all Districts and Regions.
