Ferdinand|EducationGhana| November 19| Kumasi Academy Senior High School wins maiden STEMNNOVATION Competition
The Kumasi Academy Senior High School has emerged winner of the maiden national STEM Project competition dubbed STEMNNOVATION.
Kumasi Academy won with 24.6 points, followed by Pope Johns SHS Seminary and Worawora SHS for placing second and third respectively with 24.4 and 23.8 points.
They were awarded GHC12,000 plus a Laptop and Printer whilst the 1st and 2nd runners up got GHC7,000 and 5,000 respectively with a printer and laptop each.
Selection
For the selection of the participating schools, the competition was opened to over 200 Senior High and Technical Schools across the country who took part in the regional competition to be able to qualify for the national competition.
Out of the participating schools, 16 of them made it to the finals with only 3 making it to the finals.
The event took place at the Free SHS Secretariat on December 19, 2022, and was organized by the Management of the Free SHS Secretariat and the Ministry of Education, with support from Cocktail Media.
About the Competition
The STEM Project competition is designed to challenge and tap into the creative potential of the current Free SHS Programme beneficiaries:
1. Senior High Schools (SHS)
2. Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS)
3. Technical & Vocational Education & Training (TVET) Institutions
Another good news about this competition is that it is the first of its kind at the second cycle level of education in Ghana where competing schools were tasked to apply indigenous materials in their surroundings.
Indeed the various innovations by all the 200 participating schools is a testament that as a country, we have creative minds who can be nurtured to become scientists and innovators of projects to address our local and global challenges.
