KA Technologies has completed the nationwide distribution of laptops to teachers under the One Teacher One Laptop programme. This initiative, launched by the Ghana government, aims to enhance ICT integration in education by providing laptops to all public school teachers.
KA Technologies Limited, the local firm responsible for distributing laptops under the One Teacher One Laptop programme, has announced the successful completion of its nationwide distribution. This significant milestone was achieved as part of the government’s initiative to enhance education delivery through information and communication technology (ICT).
In a press statement dated September 1, 2024, KA Technologies confirmed the distribution of laptops to all qualified teachers across various levels of education, including Kindergarten, Primary, Junior, and Senior High Schools. The distribution also extended to teachers on study leave and non-teaching staff under the Ghana Education Service (GES).
“We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the nationwide supply, training, and subsequent distribution of computer laptops to qualified teachers,” the statement read. The initiative, launched by Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in September 2021, aimed to strategically influence teaching and learning outcomes in pre-tertiary educational institutions nationwide by providing laptops to all public school teachers.
To ensure continuous support for teachers, KA Technologies has established 24/7 Aftercare Centers across the country. These centers provide ongoing customer and technical assistance. Additionally, the company has introduced the user-friendly Katcare App, which allows teachers to book repair services and purchase laptop accessories. For any complaints or inquiries, teachers can also call the toll-free line at 0800790555.
Background:
The One Teacher One Laptop programme was launched as part of the government’s effort to enhance the role of ICT in Teacher Professional Development (TPD). The initiative underscores the importance of integrating technology into the educational process, allowing teachers to better prepare lessons, conduct research, and facilitate learning.
Under the programme, the government covers 70% of the cost of each laptop, with the remaining 30% being paid by the teachers. This collaborative effort between the government, teacher unions, and stakeholders reflects a shared commitment to advancing digital literacy and education quality in Ghana.
KA Technologies expressed gratitude to the teacher unions, including the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), as well as other stakeholders and partners, for their support in the successful execution of the programme.
“As a local firm, we are indeed gratified to have contributed towards the delivery of digital-aided advancement in teaching in Ghana and remain committed to leapfrogging technology to transform all sectors of the Ghanaian economy,” the statement concluded.
