A Ghanaian Educationist and counselor has questioned the quality of the New Standard-Based Curriculum organized by the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA).
Educationist Daniel Fenyi said there was nothing standard-based about the new curriculum.
He thinks the New Standard-Based Curriculum needs a second consideration before its implementation.
In a statement issued by the renowned Educationist,he said there was nothing like a globally-accepted standard education system.
.”China, USA, UK, Germany, Denmark, etc all have different education systems.”
”While China concentrates on Technology, Germany focuses more on Vocational/Technical Education, Qatar concentrates on Medicine, etc. So whose ‘standard’ is the new curriculum based on?” He asked.
”UK is still doing the “O” and “A” Level system, ‘reform’ does not mean just change everything even if there is no ‘sense’ in it.” He emphasized.
GES take on Quality
In his defense on the quality of the New Standard-Based Curriculum,the Director- General of the Ghana Education Service,
Prof. Kwesi Opoku Amankwa said the curriculum was assessed by Cambridge International.
Moreover,the GES boss said Cambridge International,a curriculum assessment company in the United Kingdom
did the final scrutinization before it was finally brought to Ghana.
Also, the GES boss said the New Standard-Based Curriculum has met the International Standards before its implementation.
