The Ghana Education Service(GES) and the SIC Insurance Company have begun payment of GH¢10 deducted from teachers’ salaries in June 2018.
The refund is part of a statement issued by the Ghana Education Service for its staff to fill forms for the refund of the said amount.
According to the Ghana Education Service, Teachers and other staff who did not fill the exit form shall be considered automatic members of the GES-SIC policy.
Why The Refund?
In June 2018,the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) deducted some GH¢10 each from the salaries of its staff.
According to the GES, the monies deducted form part of a government intervention Insurance policy program meant for teachers.
The GES indicated the government shall subsidize the amount for all teachers.
Teachers Rejected the Offer
After the deduction in June 2018,teacher unions criticized the decision saying they were not informed of the said policy even before its implementation.
The Unions called on the GES to refund the deducted monies and reorganize the policy sensitization.
GES begins Policy April 2019
The GES in March 2019 released a document which indicated the policy shall begun in April 2019.
According to the Ghana Education Service, teachers who are not interested in the policy should fill exit forms before April 2019.
Teachers who did not fill the form become automatic members of the policy.
Refund Begins
On April 10,2019 ,the Ghana Education Service begun payment of the GH¢10 through banks and mobile money accounts of teachers who filled the exit forms.
