JUST IN: WAEC outlines new rules for conduct of 2020 WASSCE, BECE

The West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) has amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus outlined a new set of rules for the conduct of the 2020 WASSCE and BECE for school candidates.

The Council explained that the new rules will help protect the prospective candidates, invigilators, and supervisors from contracting the deadly virus which has currently claimed 117 lives in the country.

According to the Head of School Examination Administration Department at the WAEC-Ghana, the Examination Council has put adequate measures in place for the successful conduct of the forthcoming national examinations.

He indicated that the 2020 WASSCE for school candidates will officially start next month which is August and ends on the first week of September this year.

WAEC new rules for the conduct of 2020 WASSCE & BECE

Mr Godfred Addo speaking in a Zoom interview monitored by Georgeweb.org said;

  1. WAEC will provide all invigilators with hand gloves to enable them to thoroughly search the candidates before the start of the examination each day.
  2. It will also provide alcohol based-hand sanitizers to invigilators as part of measures to slow the spread of the novel virus. Both students and invigilators will be made to wash their hands under running water with soap before the start and after the examination.

  1. Mr. Godfred said to ensure maximum social distancing, each classroom will contain at least 25 candidates depending on the class size.

  2. Candidates are to report 1 hour before the commencement of the examination, according to the Head of Examination, the Council will not tolerate lateness at the examination centre.

  1. The wearing of face masks is mandatory for candidates, invigilators and supervisors, candidates without face masks will not be allowed entry into the examination hall.
