JUST IN: GES begins Plans for resumption of Schools after May 31

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has begun planning towards the resumption of schools should the president lift the ban on the closure of schools after May,31,2020.

The GES in a letter dated May 13, 2020, to the Pre-Tertiary Teacher Unions, the GES requested from the Union, their inputs on how to manage the schools with regards to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The GES has given the Unions until May 19, 2020, to submit their inputs.

GES Earlier decisions on BECE, WASSCE Candidates

Earlier, the GES said Candidates of the forthcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) shall remain on campus to be prepared by their teachers towards the 2020 Examinations.

This was discussed in a meeting held by the Director-General and his two Deputies with other notable stakeholders on Wednesday, 18th March 2020 to discuss the President’s directive on the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Later decisions after WAEC suspends WASSCE Indefinitely

The Ghana Education Service (GES) later ordered the immediate closure of Schools and calls for all WASSCE Candidates to go home.

The Ghana Education Service made this known in a statement issued by the Director-General Prof Kwesi Opoku Amankwa on Friday, March 20, 2020.

His directive came after the West African Examination Council ( WAEC) sent an inter-office Memorandum to all member countries, calling for an indefinite suspension of the 2020 WASSCE due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
