EducationGhana| September 9| Information on deduction of Teachers Allowances for Modem false – GNAT
The leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has issued a statement on the alleged proposed deduction of teachers’ 2022 Professional Development Allowance.
In a statement, the National Secretariat of GNAT said, there’s a purported claim being circulated on Social Media Platforms that the Teacher Unions are planning to deduct an amount of GH¢ 295.00 to GH¢ 430.00 from this year’s Professional Development Allowance for the purchase of Modem and Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) for teachers.
According t o the National President of GNAT Rev. Isaac Owusu, the information is false and must be disregarded or treated with the necessary contempt it deserves.
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has also explained that it is not the duty of Teacher Unions to purchase Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) for teachers in the country.

BACKGROUND
In the wake of the week, an article emerged on social media alleging an unapproved deduction from the 2022 teachers’ Professional Development Allowance.
According to the Teacher Unions, the alleged articles on the purported proposed deduction of teachers’ 2022 Professional Development Allowance is not true.
Read the purported statement below circulating on social media.
The statement captioned “2022 PDA Payment Details and Possible Deductions That Will Occur” reads;
The Ghana Education Service (GES), in collaboration with the government of Ghana, pays an annual amount of GHS1,200 to teachers in Ghana as Professional Development Allowance (PDA).

After budgeting for the aforementioned allowances, the Ghanaian government through the Ministry of Finance (MOF) 2020 instructed the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD) to make the first payment.
However, it has become a yearly tradition that beneficiaries of professional allowances do not get paid in full because teachers will always receive TLM, with the associated costs being subtracted.
According to all indications, this year’s PDA will undoubtedly include a deduction for a product or TLM that the various teacher unions and GES have purchased for the teachers. What will that thing be?
In this article, we will highlight the possible items to be distributed to teachers this time around as a result of the payment development allowance.
What is the Date for Payment of PDA in 2022?
The Professional Development Allowance (PDA) will be paid in November 2022.
What Deductions will be made from the 2022 PDA
Unconfirmed reports gathered indicate that teachers will be charged for a modem (HUAWEI 4G Wingle). The cost of the modem is not known though but is estimated to cost between an amount of GHS300-GHS450.
