At the Pretertiary Education level in Ghana, the manager is the Ghana Education Service on behalf of the Government of Ghana.

There are different types of teacher Shana Education services.

Who is an Inservice Teacher?

An in-service teacher is a person who has been trained as a teacher and receives a salary in that respect.

 

 What are the types of in-service TEACHERS? 

There are two types of in-service teachers at the Ghana Education Service. They include those who teach in the classrooms and those who work at the administrative levels or offices (Mamagenet level)

 Who are Inservice Teachers in the Classrooms?

These are individuals who have gone through teacher education programmes in teacher training institutions and received a minimum of three years of training in teaching subject(s) and methodology and are currently teaching in the classrooms.

Who are Inservice Teachers In Administration or Management?

These are individuals who were trained as teachers from recognised teacher education institutions and are currently working administrators and managers.

E.G Heads of Institutions, School Improvement Support Officers(SISOs) formerly Circuit Supervisors (CS), Staff at the various District and Regional Education Directorates as well as the Headquarters of the GES or any other Agency under the Ministry of Education.

 

What is expected of an Inservice Teacher?

1. Work within the confines of the NTS, Code of Ethics and Professional Practice and all the guidelines designed for teachers by the Council

2. Attend CPD Programmes:

Primary and JHS Teachers are expected to attend both supply (minimum of 27) and demand-driven CPD activities.

a. In addition, teachers should also embark on self-initiative activities such as writing a book chapter, conducting action research, attending conference marking etc. The details are in the CPD framework on the NTC website

b.Building Portfolio: Teachers are to show evidence of how they demonstrate professionalism in their practice

• This evidence can be in hard copies such as pictures and write-ups or electronic versions such as videos or attached files.

• In addition, the Teacher Training Logbook can also serve as evidence.

3. Renew License

• All in-service teachers shall be issued a professional license without sitting for an examination

• This license will be renewed every three years on the condition that the teacher has:

1. lived within the confines of the code of ethics and professional standards

2. met the required CPD points at the current rank within the 3year TCPD cycle

3. passed the portfolio
