GreenGhana Day: Gizella Agbotui distributes over 4000 seedlings to Schools

The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West Constituency, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui on Friday, June 10, 2022, distributed over 400 seedlings to schools for the annual green Ghana tree planting project.

 

This weekend we have Greened Ghana, supporting this important program to increase green cover in our district.

”Last year my office selected some beaches in Senya Bereku plus 10 schools on a pilot basis, but this year all 71 public schools, the 5 SHS schools, clinics and some new residential areas will have their share of 4000+ seedlings” She said.

WIND BREAKS

According to her, the seedlings were distributed to Serve as wind breaks when they grow into their full size to avoid winds adversely affecting the roofs of school buildings.

DEMARCATION

She added, that the seedlings shall  Serve as boundary demarcations where necessary on the school’s land boundaries  as well as Create shady environments on campus and school compounds as conducive learning and play environments

CLIMATE CHANGE

Again, the seedlings when planted shall Contribute to avoiding adverse effects of climate change and improving microclimate and also Grow fruit trees to supplement children’s nutrition on school campuses.

 

IGF and Beautification

The MP said the tree planting shall  Create Woodlots for potential Internally Generated Funds (IGF) as well as General beautification and soft landscaping.

 

Type of Seedlings

The MP distributed a fair amount of Acasia, Militia, Mahogany, Royal palm, Coconut, Mango and Orange
