RE: EDUCATION ON CORONAVIRUS PREVENTION IN SCHOOLS*
I wish to use this medium to react to the press release of education on conoravirus prevention in schools by the Management of Ghana Education Service.
In my candid opinion, as it stands, per the latest release or update on Coronavirus by the Ministry of Health signed by Kwaku Agyeman-Manu on 12th March 2020 dubbed: Ghana confirms two cases of Covid-19, it is now clear and highly evident that the Covid-19 has finally visited Ghana, and for that matter I strongly believe that though education on the infection is good, it has outlived it purpose.
GES should have educated staff and students when we as a country heard the spread of Convid-19 as a rumour with various confirmations from affected countries and World Health Organization (WHO). There is a saying that when the frog infront falls in a pit, the others behind take caution.
This is the moment where GES in consultation with Ghana Health Service and other stakeholders halt some educational activities as well as some social gatherings for a period of time to enhance fruitful investigations and diagnose while continuous education on preventive measures can still be in progress.
Our education system here in Ghana is popularly known to be day and boarding stream where students from different places come to school and return home. How fast would these students be abrasive with the preventive measures laid in other to avoid infections from any unknown victim leaving within us?.

As it stands, Ghana can boost of two or three labs to test for this deadly infection, therefore how fast can centres or medical gadgets be placed at vantage areas in this country so that staff and students who stay outskirts can get emergency attendants?
With these and many other justifications, I wish to plead with GES, Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to reconsider the preventive measures and move a step further for the sake of our limited resources to combat this killer infection.
I stand for “every single soul matters”. We should not therefore wait to encounter more than the number of confirmed casualties in Ghana (2). I also plead with citizens to adhere to the earlier directives laid by GES and the Ministry of Health while they take a critical look into the situation again.
