👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 PTAs Return to Schools as GES Revives Collaborative Education Governance

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the nationwide reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all pre-tertiary schools, following a directive from the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama.

The announcement was made in an official press release dated July 17, 2025, signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES.

This policy marks a renewed commitment to inclusive and collaborative education governance, aiming to strengthen parent-school partnerships for improved learning outcomes.

📘 What the Directive Means

The reinstatement affects all public Senior High Schools, Technical Institutes, and STEM schools.

GES has instructed school heads to immediately operationalise PTAs, signaling a return to the active involvement of parents in educational planning and monitoring.

🗣 “This move is aimed at strengthening the collaboration and involvement of parents, communities, and teachers in the delivery of quality education to Ghanaian learners,” the GES release stated.

📝 Guidelines and Accountability to Follow

GES also assured the public that detailed guidelines covering:

  • Structure and roles of PTAs
  • Financial accountability mechanisms
  • Transparency and efficiency standards

… will be released in due course to ensure smooth and uniform implementation nationwide.

These guidelines are expected to prevent past challenges associated with PTA operations, especially regarding fund management and representation.

🤝 A Call for Stakeholder Support

The GES concluded the statement with a call for support from all stakeholders—parents, school authorities, community leaders, and teachers—to ensure the effective implementation of this critical policy shift.

“The Ghana Education Service counts on the support of all stakeholders to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of this important policy,” the statement emphasized.
