GES directs GHANASCO Head and Senior House Master to step aside over Use of Toilet as Dormitories

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the Headmaster and Senor House Master of the Gana Senior High School, Tamale for allowing the students to use toilet cubicles as dormitories.

The GES in a statement issued on April 16, 2023, described the incident as very unfortunate. According to the statement, the GES said it had followed the discussion on social media where there was a video circulating on social media to that effect.

Available Vacancies

The GES said the school declared 1,790 available vacancies for the 2023 admissions of which only 1,467 students were enrolled.

Therefore, the GES could not understand why there will be an accommodation deficit when not all the students enrolled in the first instance.

The GES said there was a possibility of an excess of 300 students’ accommodation since not all students enrolled hence it found it very unfortunate seeing the school face accommodation challenges.

Investigation

The GES thereby directed the two individuals to step aside for the Regional Education Directorate to begin investigations into the matter and report to the headquarters in two weeks.
