GES Issues Directive Against Use of Pre-Prepared Lesson Plans

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned teachers against using pre-prepared learner or lesson plans, emphasizing that lesson planning is a core responsibility of every teacher. This directive was communicated through a letter from the Central Tongu District Education Directorate to all teachers under its jurisdiction.

The letter, signed by District Director of Education, Happy Tsifokor, stated that it has come to the directorate’s attention that some teachers have been using externally sourced lesson plans in their instructional practices.

While acknowledging the challenges teachers face in lesson planning, the directorate reiterated that reliance on pre-prepared learner plans compromises instructional effectiveness and detracts from the quality of education.

“The preparation of learner plans is a core responsibility of every teacher, allowing them to tailor their instructional approaches to the specific needs and abilities of their learners. Reliance on pre-prepared plans compromises this process and detracts from the quality of education we strive to uphold in our district,” the letter stated.

Immediate Compliance and Monitoring

The directive mandates all teachers to cease using externally prepared lesson plans with immediate effect. Additionally, headteachers have been instructed to enforce strict compliance, ensuring that lesson plans are personally prepared and reviewed weekly.

Furthermore, the letter warned individuals or groups supplying such learner plans to stop immediately. Teachers found guilty of violating this directive will face disciplinary action.
