Former Education Minister Lee Ocran buried in his Hometown

Former Education Minister, Lee Ocran was laid to rest on Saturday, April 13, 2019.

The late Lee Ocran, also a former MP for the Jomoro Constituency, died on Thursday, 21st February 2019.

Mr Ocran, 74, was said to have been battling an illness prior to his death.

The burial service was held at his hometown, Nawule near Half Assini in the Jomoro Municipality in the Western Region.

In attendance were sympathisers and a strong delegation from the NDC, led by Flagbearer John Mahama.

Other party officials including Johnson Asiedu Nketia, NDC General Secretary; Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, NDC National Chairman; Joshua Akamba, NDC National Organiser, among others.

Ocran was appointed Minister by President John Atta Mills in February 2012 after a cabinet reshuffle following the resignation of Betty Mould-Iddrisu from government and the sacking of Martin Amidu.

Before that, he had been the Deputy Minister of Environment Science and Technology in 2000.

He was MP for Jomoro until he lost his seat to Samia Nkrumah of the Convention People’s Party in December 2008.

Mr. Ocran was also a former Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress.

In February 2014, Ocran was sworn in as board chairman of the Volta River Authority.
