The Ghana Education Service (GES) has said that learners at the public schools from Kindergarten to Basic 6 shall be assessed based on the learners’ Continuous Assessment (School Based Assessment) for the term.
The GES in a letter dated November 12,2019 ,signed by its Acting Deputy Director General, Dr. Kwabena Bempah Andoh ,to all regional directors of education explained further.
Why the Continuous Assessment ?
According to the statement, the GES took the decision after a close monitoring at the implementation of the New Standard-Based Curriculum which encourages the use of various forms of assessment other than the end of term examination.
The GES upon the monitoring of the implementation process, directs that the first term assessment for KG1 to Primary 6 pupils will be determined by the continuous assessment for each learner

Future Exams
Referencing the letter issued by the Ghana Education Service, it is unclear whether the KG and Primary Learners shall ever take part in examinations in the future ,sine the GES indicated that ”Junior High Schools are to continue with their end of term examination until the Junior High School Curriculum is reviewed and implemented”.
A situation many believed may bring and end to end of term exams under the new standard based curriculum.
