Fees Arrears: UCC sacked Distance Education Students from Exam Hall over GHC10

FEE 20 UCC COLLEGE FACE SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS

Students of the University of Cape Coast College of Distance Education (UCC CoDE) met the worst time in their academic lives after the University sacked them for owning fees during last weekend’s end of semester exams.

The action that took place in all centers across the country was meant to ensure students pay their fees on time.

Moreover, the Abetifi Center in the Eastern Region had some 40 students sacked for owing fees ranging from GHC10, Ghc50, and above.

About 70 final year students at Atefuah Senior High School Campus in Akyem Oda faced a similar predicament.

Some of the affected students owe as little as GHC200 but have been prevented from writing the exams.

Speaking with EducationGhana’s Ellis Ferdinand, some students at the Abetifi Center said the decision by the management of the University to sack them for owing fees was shocking.

The students said it was not a fact that the fees shall not be paid since a student cannot graduate without paying his or her fees in full.

The students said, for the final year students, their inability to write their final papers meant they cannot graduate from the University.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, the students called on the authorities to take a second look at some of their decisions with regards to payment of fees.
