Ellis Ferdinand to represent Ghana at the 2021 Ubuntu International Students Dialogue

EducationGhana, May 12, Ubuntu Dialogues: Ghanaian Education Blogger and journalist at Summer 106.9 FM in Accra, Ghana, Ellis Ferdinand has been selected to represent Gnana at the 2021 Ubuntu International Students Dialogue organised by the Michigan State University African Studies Center and the Stellenbosch University Museum.


The  Pilot Multi-country and Multi-campus Ubuntu Virtual Student Dialogues are designed to connect students at African, Latin American, and U.S. higher education institutions.

The dialogue sessions offer a much-needed forum for cultivating cross-cultural understanding on contemporary and critical issues confronting young people across the Atlantic.

They provide participants with the opportunity to connect and rethink national, racial, linguistic, and other boundaries and differences; and to promote the resolution of real and imagined differences through dialogue.

Virtual
The 2021 edition of the dialogue shall be virtual with videos been circulated by the international media.

Launch
The Ubuntu Dialogue was virtually launched on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, to get all participants to familiarize themselves with each other and also get the dialogue plans.

The dialogue is expected to start from Tuesday, May 18 and any other Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:00 am EST until June 15, 2021.

The virtual dialogues are scheduled as follows:

Topics
The dialogue is expected to be communicated on four topics namely;
1. The history and Legacies of and responses to systemic racism
2.  The meanings of Ubuntu and Pan Africanism as concepts and as practice
3. Decolonization and Transformation of Knowledge Production and Institutions
4. Africa and America as ideas, places, identities and subjects of study.

About Ubuntu Dialogues
The Ubuntu Dialogues: Museums and Communities Connect is an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation-funded partnership between the MSU African Studies Center and the Stellenbosch University Museum.

The partnership is geared toward a) transforming the function and practice of the museum as an institution, both within Africa and around the world; b) establishing new and strengthening existing connections and cooperation between universities, museums, and communities; and

c) developing a replicable framework for universities and museums across national and other divides to collaborate in producing dynamic sites for the co-creation and dissemination of knowledge and practice.

The project includes three main components: virtual student dialogues, a seminar speaker exchange program, and a student internship program.

Participating Countries
Participants are being selected from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Cameroon, Malawi, Dr Congo, the United States of America, Botswana, South Africa, among others.
Ellis Ferdinand
Ellis Ferdinand is a Practicing Curricularist and a Master of Philosophy Student in Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies at the University of Education, Winneba .

He is expected to speak on three topics at the ubuntu international students dialogue to promote the essence of Pan Africanism from the perspective of an African and its impact on Africa’s futuristic growth and development politically, ideologically, economically etc.
