Dzifa Gomashie visits Pregnant Students in her Constituency

The National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary candidate for the Ketu South Constituency in her quest to promote education in the constituency paid a visit to a pregnant student in one of the communities in Aflao to help bring her back to school.

The plight of the girl was reported to the former deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts who is also a member of the Aflao Traditional Area Development Organization (ATADO) when the organization visited Gamadzra Basic School as part of their program to support the educational sector in the Aflao Traditional Area.

The parliamentary aspirant got to know of this situation when the headmaster of the school who was obviously concerned about the development reported the situation of the student to her, adding that the girl’s attitude to school has changed and barely comes to school these days as a result of the pregnancy.

Madam Gomashie shared few words with the girl and encouraged her not to be discouraged but remain focused to complete her education. She also promised to give her more support to see her through. The young girl agreed to join the head master to go back to school immediately.

It is not surprising that the aspirant took time off to engage the young girl as in August this year, her NGO, VFL-Ghana and the Obaapa Development Foundation launched the Teenage mother Back to School Campaign in Klikor with support from the Municipal Girl Child Coordinator.

The efforts of the two NGO’s, among others, is to ensure, that menstruation, stigma, prejudice and pregnancy are no more barriers to girls in general and to advocate for an end to child marriage.
