‘Deboardinize students found to have engaged in indisciplined actions during exams’ – GES to heads

Prof. Amankwa GES DG

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has described as appalling the series of protests and public show of indiscipline by some students in Senior High Schools across the country.

Since the commencement of this year’s West Africa Senior School Certificate Exam, at least four schools have witnessed student demonstrations for various reasons.

An instance is at the Ndewura Jakpa Senior High Technical School in the Savannah Region were final year students destroyed school properties to register their displeasure with the 1.5-meter gap between seats.

Among other things, the angry students removed the ceiling of a new six-unit classroom block that was handed over to the school to end double track.

They also plunged the school into a state of darkness as they damaged the school’s lighting system.

There are other instances where students rain insults on the President for what they term as the failure of teachers to allow them to copy during their Integrated Science paper on Monday, August 3, 2020.

But GES, in a statement signed by its Director-General, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, said that necessary sanctions would be meted out against culprits.

“Management wishes to make it clear that school rules and regulations, in particular, those involving examination malpractice have not been suspended in any form. Therefore, any student established to have misconducted themselves in any of the indiscipline acts should be deboardinized and be allowed to commute from home to write the exams under parental control.

The statement added that “any destruction of school property will be surcharged against the culprits established to be involved. Instances, where criminal acts have been committed, should be reported to the Police for investigations”
