Basic School Teachers not directed to return to old curriculum – GES

EducationGhana, August 13, New Curriculum: The Ghana Education Service (GES) has refuted claims that teachers at the public Basic Schools are to return to the use of Old Objective-Based Curriculum after introducing two different Curriculums at the Primary and Junior High Schools.

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) in 2019 introduced a Standard- Based Curriculum for the Kindergarten and Primary Schools in and a subsequent Common Core Program Curriculum (CCP) for Junior High Schools and Senior High 1 Students in 2020.

Challenges

Though the JHS CCP Curriculum has not been fully implemented due to the inability of the GES to train the teachers on the curriculum, the primary SBC has been poorly implemented due to the unavailability of the Teaching and Learning Resouces of which Textbooks become the most spoken about.

Reports 

Rumours have it that the GES gas called on teachers to return to the use of the Old Curriculum until books and other materials are being provided for the New Curriculum.

GES Argument

The GES argued that such reports were false and informed the teachers to disregard such rumours and use the New Curriculum.
