St Augustine’s College has begun a strong campaign in the National Science and Maths Quiz.
The Cape Coast school handed Bolgatanga Senior High and Walewale Senior High a defeat to remember in the second contest for Tuesday.
St. Augustine’s, one time winners of the competition slipped in 2017 with a preliminary stage defeat and also failed to qualify for the 2018 competition.
Their prospects were on the fence in this contest considering one of the opponents; Bolga is the Upper East Region’s best.
But Augusco took no chances.
Right from the proverbial first whistle, they showed the two competitors from the Northern part of the country that they are Augusco, a name and a title in one.
In Round 2, known as the speed race, the Cape Coast giants answered most of the riddles thrown at the schools simultaneously.
They put the icing on the cake by scoring a perfect score in Round 3, known as Problem of the Day. Their reward for that feat is a GHS500 prize from Prudential Life Insurance.
They are the first school to win it after its introduction in 2019.
After maintaining that tempo to end the contest, St Augustine’s ended with 76 points followed by Bolga SHS with 22 points. Walewale fell behind with 18 points.
Augusco are through to the 1/8 stage of the contest while the two losing schools would have to wait for the prelims to be over,
hopefully, their scores would be among the 18 highest scoring losers and they would progress too.
