Amendment of Public University bill will assure better running of Universities – NAPO

The Minister for Education Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh says “he believes the necessary amendments agreed on will make the Public University Bill better in ensuring the smooth establishment and running of Ghanaian universities”.

According to the Member of Parliament for Manhyia Constituency, he on Monday met with the leadership of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) to discuss matters concerning the Public University Bill which has got many people talking and giving opinions.

He again said President Akufo-Addo last week invited him alongside the UTAG leadership to the Jubilee House to ascertain their immediate needs and discuss the way forward.

NAPO said in the course of discussion issues concerning the pending Public University Bill heated up of which he subsequently arranged a meeting with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) separately at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to discuss the concerns.

In the view of the Minister for Education, the 3-hour discussion through almost all the sections of the bill makes him be convinced that the necessary amendments arrived at will make the Public University Bill better in ensuring the smooth establishment and running of Universities, particularly public Universities in Ghana.
