Allow Rastafarian Students access to School – GES to Achimota SHS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the management of Accra-based Achimota School  (MOTOWN) to accept the two Rastafarian students it denied admission on March 9, 2020.

Daily Graphic reported that the Director-General of the GES has indicated, that he has directed the headmistress to allow the Rastafarian student access to school.

The  Dialy Graphic said the Director-General indicated, that students should not be denied access to school based on their faith.

This comes after social media got heated up when news went viral that two students who have dreadlocks have been denied admission by the Achimota School.

A lot of Ghanaians condemned the authorities of the school for denying the students the opportunity to have quality education because of their outlook.

A former Kumbungu MP Ras Mubarak lashed out at the school for looking at the outward being of the students rather than considering the value and glory the students can bring to the school.

Also, actress Lydia Forson who equally felt offended by the action of the school noted that if the rules of a modern-day school cannot be changed, then most Black people will still be slaves by now working on plantation farms in the US.

According to the Achimota School Management, the two students with dreadlocks were denied admission due to the Ghana Education Service code of conduct the school follows.
