Aggrieved NSS personnel petition Secretariat over ‘unfair’ GHS15 deductions

NSS NSS Releases Postings for 106,223 Personnel for 2024/2025 Service Year

The Concerned National Service Personnel (NSS) group has petitioned the National Service Secretariat to effect the reversal of some monies deducted from their allowances for last month.

The group, lamenting the deductions accused their leadership, the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) of exploiting them.

Speaking to Citi News on behalf of the group, Benjamin Essien says the uninformed deductions are affecting their finances.

“We have not seen anything tangible or programme they have used our monies for. We see the deductions as something that they use to enrich themselves as executives of NASPA. What we are seeking in our petition is to reverse the deduction of the GHS 15.00. At the end of the day, we are not able to meet our monthly expenditure so it is surprising that the people who are to negotiate on our behalf are the same people exploiting us so they should refund the money to us.”

The amount deducted from each person across the country by NASPA is meant to organize a National Service Week, with just two effective weeks to the end of the Service term.

But the agitated personnel say the deduction is not fair

This current situation comes as a repetition of a similar incident that happened last year.

Some National Service Personnel threatened to drag the National Service Secretariat to court over what they said was a deliberate attempt to force a nylon Lacoste and association dues on them.

A charge of GHS35.00 was deducted when they submitted their June allowance form to their various district offices to cater for the cost of the Lacoste and dues at GHS20.00 and GHS15.00 respectively.

The aggrieved personnel including the newly trained teachers say they did not need the Lacoste given the fact that the service period was about ending, hence threatening to sue the NSS over the “illegal” deductions.
